As part of its drive to expand centers of excellence and strengthen scientific innovation in the field of disability, officials from the King Salman Center for Disability Research held a meeting with Professor Jackie Ying, General Director of Research and Innovation at King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center, to explore opportunities for research collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two sides.
During the meeting, a number of promising research project proposals were reviewed, most notably a project to develop a memory stimulation platform using real-time neurorestorative techniques, and a project to create a low-cost therapeutic platform using antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) for patients with spinal muscular atrophy. These initiatives reflect a serious commitment to providing precise and sustainable scientific solutions to challenges related to disability and genetic neurological disorders.
The discussions also paved the way for the establishment of a joint Center of Excellence dedicated to disability research and the prevention of its genetic and acquired causes, with the aim of developing effective scientific solutions that improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities and achieve sustainable impact in this field.
This direction is guided by the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Nonprofit Foundation, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, which emphasize the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships and activating the scientific and research role of the Center in serving disability-related issues in the Kingdom.
