King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR) has announced the launch of the fourth cycle of the Specialized Research Groups Program for 2024. The program focuses on creating research and innovation groups to conduct studies in various fields related to disability, including health, medicine, social sciences, humanities, technology, and engineering.

The center aims to support scientific research with a broad impact on challenges faced by persons with disabilities, enhancing their quality of life and developing solutions to disability-related issues.

Under the supervision and attendance of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, the Investment and Resources Committee held its second meeting of the sixth session via virtual communication. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Mr. Tariq bin Abdulrahman Al-Sadhan, with the participation of committee members from various government and private sector entities.

The meeting began with a review of the committee’s decisions from its first session, followed by a discussion of the topics listed on the agenda. These topics covered future investment visions and strategies in investment portfolios and potential opportunities.

It is worth noting that the Investment and Resources Committee aims to achieve strategic objectives in the field of investment and to direct the use of resources efficiently. These committees work on developing economic and investment policies and strategies that contribute to enhancing investment and achieving sustainable development.

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, signed a cooperation agreement with His Excellency Professor Bandar bin Abdulmohsen Al-Knawy, Executive Director General of Health Affairs at the Ministry of National Guard and President of King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences.

This scientific partnership seeks to enhance joint collaboration between the King Salman Center for Disability Research and KAIMRC in developing research and studies related to disabilities. His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman was welcomed by His Excellency Professor Bandar Al-Knawy, along with academic and research leaders.

During their visit to the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center (KAIMRC), Prince Sultan and Professor Bandar lunched the first Centers of Excellence for the King Salman Center for Disability Research in the healthcare field, which focuses on preventing diseases and lifestyle factors that contribute to disabilities, whether genetic, congenital, or acquired.

In a press statement for this event, His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, for his continuous support and commitment to disability-related issues since their inception. He also praised the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which is led and supervised by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for its dedication to enhancing the quality of life. This vision aims to improve the well-being of individuals and families by enabling an environment that facilitates and promotes new opportunities for participation in cultural, recreational, and sports activities.

Prince Sultan also extended his thanks to His Excellency Professor Bandar Al-Knawy and the officials at the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center for establishing and dedicating the first Centers of Excellence under the King Salman Center for Disability Research. He emphasized that the center spares no effort in developing programs and projects to build strategic and scientific partnerships with national research centers. The goal is to provide innovative solutions to challenges faced by persons with disabilities while mking use of national expertise in this field. Additionally, the center’s strategic plan aims to maximize the impact of research in practical applications.

 

The King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR) organized a specialized workshop titled “Inclusive Parks Guide” at the center’s headquarters and via live broadcast. Relevant entities attended and participated in the event , including the Authority for Persons with Disabilities, the Quality of Life Program, the Building Code, and researchers interested in the subject.

The workshop started with a welcoming speech by Dr. Badr bin Saad Al-Hajhouj, Executive Director of KSCDR, followed by an introductory speech by Ms. Sarah Al-Muhaidib, Executive Director of Abdulqader Al-Muhaidib Foundation for Community Service, who introduced the Inclusive Parks initiative. followed by a presentation on the workshop’s objectives and its significance in developing the Inclusive Parks Guide, delivered by Dr. Ibrahim Al-Tasan and Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Hasan, the guide’s developers.

The workshop, aimed at establishing a reference framework for the Inclusive Parks Guide, featured in-depth discussions on its key aspects, including the preparation methodology, usage mechanisms, and best global practices for designing inclusive parks. It also provided a detailed review of the guide’s components and an analysis of its four fundamental dimensions, along with documentation of developmental recommendations for each.

The workshop concluded with an outline of future steps for completing the guide, which is expected to serve as a primary reference for designing and developing inclusive parks that meet the needs of all individuals and encourage equality and social interaction.

It is noteworthy that the Inclusive Parks initiative is one of KSCDR’s scientific initiatives aimed at strengthening community partnerships and supporting scientific research in the field of disability. It represents a significant step toward achieving the full involvement of children with disabilities in society by providing engaging environments that stimulate social interaction and equal opportunities in play and learning.

 

His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research, signed a cooperation agreement with His Excellency Professor Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, President of Al-Jouf University. The agreement was signed at the university’s main building in Al-Jouf, attended by university leaders, college deans, and faculty members.

On this occasion, Prince Sultan bin Salman extended his profound gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, for his unwavering support for disability-related causes. He stressed that this support shows the leadership’s strong commitment to the well-being and rights of persons with disabilities.

Prince Sultan also praised Saudi Vision 2030, led by His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman-may God protect him-, for creating an inclusive environment that provides new opportunities to empower all parts of society and enhance their participation in various activities, ultimately contributing to a sustainable and balanced society.

Moreover, Prince Sultan commended the pioneering role of Al-Jouf University in delivering high-quality educational, professional, and research outcomes at both the local and regional levels. He stressed the importance of strengthening scientific, academic, and research collaboration between the two institutions in line with the applicable regulations and standards in the Kingdom, aiming to achieve tangible results that support persons with disabilities and enhance their quality of life.

In conclusion, Prince Sultan expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the President of Al-Jouf University, Professor Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Shaya, and the university staff for their warm welcome and hospitality. He also praised their efforts in ensuring the success of this remarkable scientific partnership.

The King Salman Center for Disability Research is pleased to announce the indexing of the Journal of Disability Research (JDR), affiliated with the center, in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), one of the leading global databases specializing in indexing high-quality, peer-reviewed open access journals.

The DOAJ includes more than 21,000 scientific journals from 136 countries, with 13,694 journals published without fees. It also hosts over 10 million research papers in 89 different languages. This achievement reflects the center's commitment to expanding access to scientific knowledge and promoting transparency in disability-related research, contributing to the dissemination of high-quality, freely accessible content for researchers and stakeholders worldwide.

This development further strengthens the journal's position and marks a step towards indexing JDR in the Web of Science database. It underscores the center's role in supporting open access research and fostering global academic collaboration.

The King Salman Center for Disability Research and the Disabled Children’s Association have wrapped up their participation in the accompanying exhibition of the third edition of the Non-Profit Sector Future Forum, held under the theme “Transition to Future Technologies.” The event, which took place at the Fairmont Riyadh – Economic Gateway, has been attended by distinguished guests, including royal dignitaries, high-ranking officials, and professionals from the non-profit sector.

The participation of the Center and the Association in the forum aligns with the guidance and vision of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research. His vision emphasizes the importance of active engagement in scientific and professional forums to showcase the Center and the Association’s role in addressing disability-related issues through scientific research, care, and rehabilitation. Their future aspirations focus on achieving global leadership with high-quality, impactful research and pioneering scientific pathways under the theme “Boldness Towards the Future.”

The Center and the Association’s booth at the exhibition witnessed a significant attendance from specialists and interested visitors, who explored the organizations’ remarkable journey, visible contributions, and pioneering efforts in scientific research, care programs, and rehabilitation services aimed at enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities. This participation was presented under the title of: “Knowledge and Action that Benefit People.”

 

The King Salman Center for Disability Research welcomed officials from the Guidance and Social Service Centers in the Land Forces for an introductory meeting aimed at exploring opportunities for joint efforts and exchanging expertise to serve persons with disabilities.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the role of guidance and counseling centers in social responsibility, as well as the various initiatives that have been supported and implemented to improve the lives of persons with disabilities and support their families.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two parties expressed their commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation. They agreed to form a joint working team to establish key pillars and execution plans for a strategic partnership, focusing on human capital development, ensuring all necessary awareness and guidance,and strengthening community initiatives to support and empower persons with disabilities and their families.

 

The Scientific Committee of the King Salman Center for Disability Research held its second meeting of the sixth session, led by Dr. Talal Al-Sudairy, member of the Board of Trustees, and the attendance of members via video communication.

The meeting began with a with a review of topics on the agenda, which included the presentation of the annual report of the Department of Research, Development and Innovation for 2024, and the most outstanding achievements in the field of disability research.

Reviewing the new programs launched by the Center, in addition to the "Gap Reporting Program", that aims to spot technical and knowledge gaps in this field. The Committee also reviewed the "Patent and Innovation Initiative in the Field of Disability" included in the "Innovation Valley" program. additionally, they reviewed scientific partnerships with the top 100 international universities according to the Shanghai classification, to strengthen international cooperation in disability research.

In conclusion, the Committee stressed the importance of supporting scientific research and strengthening cooperation with international institutions to develop innovative solutions that serve disability issues for persons with disabilities.

On Monday, January 20, 2025, the King Salman Center for Disability Research signed a cooperation agreement with "Kafaat Al-Maarefa" and "Tamars" companies. The agreement aims to support the Social Investment Localization Program. The signing ceremony was attended by His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Special Advisor to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Nonprofit Foundation, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research. Also present were Eng. Mohammed bin Ali Al-Hassani, CEO of Dammam Airports Company; Mr. Mohammed bin Ahmed Al-Hilal, Chairman of Kafaat Al-Maarefa; and Mr. Faris bin Saran Al-Shammari, Chairman of Tamars.

Under the agreement, 20 employment contracts will be provided to support the Sensory Room project at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam. This project is dedicated to serving travelers with disabilities at the airport.

On this occasion, Prince Sultan bin Salman expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince (may God protect them) for the care and attention the government gives to individuals with disabilities and their diverse needs. He also praised the positive role of the private sector in supporting and enabling nonprofit organizations to fulfill their responsibilities toward society, aligning with Saudi Vision 2030 programs.

Ms. Khulood Ibrahim Al-Shaya, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research and Manager of the Sensory Rooms Project, emphasized that this partnership reflects the close cooperation between the private sector and the nonprofit sector to improve services for various community groups, including people with disabilities. She extended her gratitude to Prince Sultan bin Salman for his continuous support and follow-up on initiatives that serve people with disabilities.
